Autumn is the perfect time to mix up your everyday dog walks in London, so you can make the most of those golden hues and burnt orange leaves before the real cold sets in. Here’s our pick of the prettiest, dog walks in London where you can take in that magical, autumnal atmosphere and admire nature in all its glory.
1. Battersea Park
Battersea Park is one of London’s most dog-friendly parks and it’s especially beautiful during autumn as it hosts an array of oaks and willows that blossom into gorgeous reds, yellows and oranges. There’s plenty of space for dogs to run off lead and you can end a long walk with a visit to the dog-friendly Pear Tree Cafe for hot chocolates and pumpkin spiced lattes.
2. Hampstead Heath
Hampstead Heath is an impressive 790 acres that guarantees some of the best views of London during a stroll with your dog. The trees turn all kinds of fiery colours and there is even a dog swimming pond for any water-loving breeds to make the most of before it gets too cold.
3. Wimbledon Common
Wimbledon Common has plenty of different walking routes to choose from that take you through woodland, scrubland, heathland and grassy areas – perfect for seeing all that nature has to offer at this time of year.
4. Greenwich Park
Greenwich Park is one of the Royal Parks that was originally used for Henry VIII’s deer hunting. It has beautiful avenues lined with 400-year-old Spanish Chestnut trees which, in the autumn, produce edible nuts that you can collect. Just be sure to avoid the few areas where dogs are not permitted.
5. Hyde Park
Another Royal Park that boasts more than 4000 trees, making it a truly special place during the autumn months. Beeches, Limes and Chestnuts stand tall in their bright oranges and yellows along the Serpentine avenues and you’ll be guaranteed to meet plenty of new four legged friends.
6. Runnymede
If you don’t mind jumping in the car and heading slightly out of London, Runnymede is a national trust open landscape with rolling hills, open meadows and a number of countryside walks along the riverbank. Dogs are welcome all year round so this spot could make a nice autumnal change to the parks you know so well.
